“Selective progressiveness is just another form of hidden bias.”
In today’s polarized landscape of Pakistan, we often hear passionate voices claiming to be “liberal,” “progressive,” or “modern thinkers.” But when you scratch beneath the surface, many of these arguments collapse under the weight of their own hypocrisy.
🚨 The Contradiction No One Wants to Talk About
They oppose marriage at 18, calling it “child marriage” —
Yet glorify the West, where sexual activity at 13 or 14 is normalized, even encouraged in the name of “freedom.”
Let’s unpack this contradiction.
🚫 Marriage is ‘Oppression’, But Premarital Sex is ‘Liberation’?
In the name of progress, some Pakistani liberals attack the idea of marriage before 20 — even if it’s mutual, responsible, and culturally rooted.
They label it “backward,” “forced,” or “child abuse.”
But these same voices turn a blind eye when Western media promotes teenage sexual relationships — often as early as 13 or 14 — in films, shows, and pop culture.
So let’s ask a simple question:
If an 18-year-old girl can choose her partner for sex, why can’t she choose her husband?
🧠 Consent is Sacred — But Selective?
We often hear:
“As long as it’s consensual, it’s okay.”
Alright — then why is consensual marriage at 18 suddenly problematic?
Why the outrage when two young people want to commit instead of casually date?
Truth is:
The issue isn’t age — it’s values.
They resist anything that represents morality, tradition, or lifelong responsibility.
🌍 Worshipping the West Without Questioning Its Decay
Many of these so-called progressives proudly mimic the West — where teen pregnancies, abortion rates, and broken homes are at record highs.
They want freedom without responsibility, rights without restraint, and pleasure without purpose.
But marriage — even young, healthy, committed marriage — represents stability, sacrifice, and structure. And that makes them uncomfortable.
🤯 Mental and Emotional Maturity? Ignored!
Western culture exposes children to adult content too early — sexualizing teens in music, movies, and school environments.
In contrast, our culture encourages mature companionship, value-based commitment, and family support — even if it happens earlier than Western standards.
Yet this is labelled as “regressive”?
🧭 Real Progress = Freedom With Boundaries
Being “liberal” shouldn’t mean throwing away wisdom.
True progress balances freedom with accountability, choice with values, and modernity with morals.
Promoting teenage sex while shaming early marriage isn’t progress — it’s confused, Western-imported hypocrisy.
✍️ Final Thoughts
If you genuinely care about children and women’s rights:
- Fight sexual exploitation
- Challenge early exposure to harmful content
- Promote consensual, respectful, value-based relationships
Because not every Western idea is liberating, and not every Eastern tradition is oppressive.
It’s time to think independently — not ideologically.
